At first glance it looks like an ordinary Women’s Institute calendar; jams, cakes, knitting and views of the Yorkshire Dales, but with an exception – all of the middle-aged women aren’t wearing any clothes!
After Annie's husband succumbs to leukaemia, her friends are motivated to take action by raising money to purchase a new comfortable sofa in a hospital waiting room. They convince the WI group to craft a tastefully nude calendar featuring the usual ladies' activities of gardening and baking.
There can be few people who by now are not familiar with the touching and genuinely inspiring story. The calendar girls went on to raise millions and continue their fund-raising work to this day; the fictional version is just as long-lived. This is a show which deserves every plaudit going and if you love a good story, you won't go wrong with this one. By the end, you leave feeling like you’ve been emotionally mugged by a knitted cup of hot chocolate.
Calendar Girls runs from Saturday 1st September – Saturday 8th September 2012Matinee performance begin at 2.30pm (No Sunday performance) Evening performances begin at 7.30pm
