ASDA Keighley’s General Store Manager, Karl Brown, was making sure he’s in top shape for the impending arrival of the new ASDA store with his recent visit to the end-of-season presentation for the youth football team, Keighley Shamrocks FC.
Not only did Karl have fun with the lads showing off his skills on the football field but he was also on hand to present the prizes to each of the 150 children from the local club.
Karl’s visit also marked the announcement of ASDA’s sponsorship of the Keighley Shamrocks tournament in July, a six-a-side competition organised by the club which attracts around a hundred youth football teams from all over the region including Bradford, Leeds, Halifax and Huddersfield.
Karl Brown comments; “We are delighted to be supporting such a fantastic local tournament. Not only will this bring children of all ages together to take part in two days of football and fun but it will also attract people around the region to the town of Keighley for that weekend.”
The tournament, running over 11th and 12th July, is entirely run by volunteers from the Keighley Shamrocks FC committee with the money generated from the tournament providing vital funds towards the running of the club.
Phil Crawley, Chairman of Keighley Shamrocks FC, comments; “The Keighley Shamrocks Tournament has been running for almost ten years now, but this is the first time we have been offered financial support from a local company. ASDA’s sponsorship of the competition will help us raise even more for the club this year as well as help boost the profile of the tournament on a local and regional level. We are extremely grateful for their support, especially to Karl Brown who took time out of his busy schedule to meet all the boys at the club and hand out the much-deserved awards to each of them.”
A barbecue will be taking place over the two-day event at the Marley playing fields in Keighley for players and their families and free ASDA goodies will be on offer for each of the participants.
