Let there be lights
Friday, November 18, 2011
This year’s Christmas festivities begin on November 24th with the Christmas Lights Switch On.
Entertainment is provided by The Pulse with presenter Becky Holmes from the Pulse Breakfast Show.
This year sees a line up of stars both national and local with a personal appearance from Sami Brookes from this years X Factor Live Finals courtesy of the Airedale Shopping Centre.
Closer to home, Keighley’s Mayor Cllr Tony Wright will be in attendance and players from Keighley Cougars with mascot Freddie Cougar will accompany Sami on stage .
Also appearing this year is Bjorn the Polar Bear (above with his handler), who will give two half hour interactive shows where children can learn about the Polar Bear’s habitat and environmental issues. The question is ‘Dare you stroke him’!
The fun starts on Church Green at 5.00pm with the big switch on at 6.30pm and people are invited to come along and see Santa switch on the lights with his little helpers!
The switch on, provided by Keighley Town Centre Association, coincides with Keighley’s first late night shopping which will see the Airedale Shopping Centre open Thursdays until 8pm and Sundays 10:30am to 4:30pm on the run up to Christmas with the market and other businesses across the town opening late.
Town Centre Manager Philip Smith commented “The switch on is a great event and always attracts large numbers to join in the fun and get into the festive spirit. This year the addition of Sami Brookes and Bjorn the Polar Bear will, I’m sure, bring more good reasons to visit keighley and enjoy all there is on offer”.
