Yorkshire town is looking for love
Saturday, February 14, 2009
A West Yorkshire town has launched a new brand for itself, to help attract increased visitors. Keighley, which is nestled in the Aire Valley, is famous for its steam railway as well as its’ connections with the Brontë family and its links to Timothy Taylor who’s world famous beer is brewed in the town. It also has over 200 shops, as
well as excellent education, sports and arts facilities.
The new brand, ‘Love Keighley’ was launched in the town on Valentine’s Day, and celebrated with a traditional tea party, with Yorkshire tea and biscuits and a Love Booth where romantic couples were able to promise their love or even to propose.
The new brand is part of a campaign to highlight to potential visitors, as well as existing residents, the extent and variety of the offer in the town.
Town Centre Manager, Philip Smith commented:
“Keighley has so much to offer both visitors to the town, as well as residents. In recent years it has suffered from a negative image but after speaking to people who work and live in the area, it has become evident that they love Keighley, its history and everything it has to offer. Therefore we want to shout about it to others and ask them to come and visit the town and Love Keighley too!
”
Susan Mendoza, Centre Manager of the Airedale Shopping Centre and Vice Chair of the Keighley Town Centre Association added:
“It’s great that Keighley has got its own identity now. All the local businesses are behind this new campaign and feel that it will really help promote the town.”
